What is Nephrology?
Nephrology is a part of adult internal and pediatric medicine that deals with the study of the kidneys, predominantly normal kidney function & kidney disease, preserving the kidney health and treating the kidney disease, from diet to medication and to the renal replacement therapy. Nephrology is generally related to the disorders associated with the kidneys. Sometimes, our kidneys fail to maintain the fluid, electrolyte & acid balance which lead to issues such as acute renal failure or chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, hypertension, proteinuria, hematuria, or disorders related to acid/base and electrolytes. Most of these health issues need immediate treatment. These diseases are chronic and need prolonged nephrology care.
